The year was 1999 and Arabia was ready to watch a TV drama about the legendary Umm Kulthum The show was a huge hit and a cultural phenomena worthy of the late legendary Egyptian singer. The casting team needed a young girl to play the diva at her teen years. The young girl has to have a convincingly amazing voice and had to look a like a believable Umm Kulthum.
The show was in luck when they met Reham Abdel Hakim who would later would dazzled viewers with her amazing voice, and talent by portraying a strong vocal showing that. She was also a good actress and audiences loved her. Years later, the young woman will grow and join the House of Opera and earn an income. She does seem to keep her mainstream Egyptian girl look and style.
She is now grown and she starts getting jobs and offers to sing TV shows and later she would be her own star. But it would take untill 2015 for Reham Abdel Hakim to release her debut album. Yes, we did many songs that hit it big. Like the two title songs from the Egyptian comedy/drama film with Ahmed Hilimi “Black Honey“. The two songs showed the two different faces of Egypt, the one that people love and long too and the one that Egyptian s hate.
While we love Reham and her voice, the album is her statement, it speaks for her. She chose these songs, and the music and the team that was afforded to her. Unlike the songs she does for films, she can take credit for an entire professional studio album that will be the first brick in building her music legacy for years to come. Welcome to prime time.
