Faia Younan Sounds like a name more Arabic music fans should really know. This under the radar Syrian native is making waves in the indie and intellect music scene. She comes from Allepo the city with a rich history in music and culture. Her family loves the arts and helped Faia with her talent. But then she moves to Sweden and took that talent to where it could shine. And she never disappointed. While the politics of that place may have sent Faia and her family into diaspora, her music tells me that she still adores that old country. Her music is all about that land, its people, and their stories.
Her choices of oriental melodies reveal her love for its warmth and its authenticity. Like the masses, I first heard Faia when she teamed with her sister on an Arab country unifying message that went viral and helped launched Faia’s career. It was the right message at the right time that gave people goosebumps for its impact. More than 5 million people have already seen it. Then came the participation in international events, charity galas and concert halls like the celebrated Carthage film festival. Not to mention the many languages she Faia can sing in, Arabic, English, Swedish, Syriac and French. It now makes sense for Faia to have a home base in Lebanon where her type of music, intellect, and talent will find a home.
Faia’s debut “Ohebbou Yadayka” came as a big celebration for me when it was released on June 3rd 2015 and since then has she been touring in concerts. The follow up album “A Sea Between Us” was released earlier this year and it has not left my playlist as it finds a way to make every time the right time to enjoy the warmth and emotions of Faia. See her music video for a song on that album that captivates the soul with Faia’s both vocal and visual performance. really simple does it. An added bonus Faia composed this joint.
