Egyptian singer Adham Seliman has been making awesome and fresh kind of music in his beloved country of Egypt yet he is not the household name that he deserves to be. He is a smart musician who follows Western Music and is well-versed in traditional Arabic music. He has an amazing set of vocal muscles, really he can show off, he can manipulate his voice and hit all the notes–thanks to his sense of sorrow that accompanies his voice. In Ya Samra, his latest work of art, he makes music fun, loose and original.
He is just one simple and naturally cool dude who can make a walk on the beach as hot as it can be. The professionally trained computer scientist dabbled into singing in his early days in junior high and then started working with various production companies. A stepping stone he has used to launch his own career, after years of singing and composing during his college days. Adham knows the production really well and it should come as no surprise that he would record, produce, sing and compose his own work.
Adham takes a different approach to music, he is big on having a feel for the song, it does not come because he has to have one but rather he only sings when he has something awesome and something exciting to share. So Ya Samra lives up to that rule. I support this kind of music, taking a risk like Adham does makes Arabic music better. Arabic music does not all have to be the same, make the same sounds and follow the same formula. I also hope Adham to work with other A-list artists by sharing his taste and building on their platform.
